Before you start
The Elle dashboard is where you configure how Elle behaves in your Discord server. Before enabling moderation, security, logging, or other modules, it is worth reviewing a few core settings first so your staff has the right access and Elle does not enforce rules more aggressively than you intended.
- Elle must already be installed in the Discord server you want to manage.
- Your Discord account must be able to access that server’s dashboard.
- Elle needs the Discord permissions required for the features you plan to use.
- Elle’s bot role should be positioned high enough in the Discord role hierarchy to manage the roles and members it needs to act on.
Step 1 — Access your server dashboard
Overview gives you a quick view of your server and shortcuts to commonly used modules. Settings is where the most important first-time configuration lives.
- Go to ellebot.app and sign in with Discord.
- Open Dashboard.
- Choose the server you want to configure.
- Once the dashboard opens, start from Overview and then open Settings.
Step 2 — Choose the bot language
At the top of Settings, find Bot language. This controls the language Elle uses for bot responses and commands inside this Discord server.
Bot language is configured per server and is separate from the language used on the Elle website.
- English
- Español
- Open the Bot language selector.
- Choose the language you want Elle to use.
- Continue through the rest of Settings before saving.
Step 3 — Configure Dashboard access
Dashboard access lets you choose trusted members who can open and manage this server’s Elle dashboard.
This is useful when you have administrators or staff members who help configure the server so you are not the only person responsible for every dashboard change.
- Find Dashboard access in Settings.
- Use Search members to add.
- Select the trusted members who should be allowed to configure Elle.
- Keep the list limited to people who genuinely need dashboard access.
Step 4 — Protect important staff roles
Protected Roles lets you make selected Discord roles owner-only to assign.
If anyone other than the server owner assigns one of the protected roles, Elle automatically reverses the assignment and removes that role from the member.
- Administrator
- Head Moderator
- Moderator
- Server Manager
- Any other high-trust role
- Find Protected roles in Settings.
- Select the staff roles you want to protect.
- Review the selected roles carefully before saving.
Step 5 — Configure Moderator Permissions
Moderator Permissions lets you decide which staff roles Elle recognizes as moderators and which moderation commands each role can use.
Instead of giving every moderator identical access, you can handpick permissions based on the staff role.
- Trial Moderators can be limited to basic moderation commands.
- Moderators can be allowed to warn, timeout, or kick.
- Senior Moderators can receive additional moderation actions.
- Administrators can be given the broadest moderation access.
- Open Moderator Permissions.
- Select the staff role you want to configure.
- Enable only the commands and moderation actions that role should have.
- Repeat for each moderator role.
Step 6 — Review Moderation settings
After the core Settings page is configured, open Moderation.
Elle includes autonomous moderation systems for links, blocked words, message flooding, duplicate messages, excessive caps, excessive emojis, excessive mentions, walls of text, character limits, photo spam, and more.
Do not assume the defaults are perfect for every server. Some communities are naturally more active than others, and a setting that works well in one server can be too strict in another.
- Whether the module is enabled
- What triggers it
- Thresholds and limits
- Who can bypass it
- What action Elle takes when triggered
Step 7 — Review Security settings
Next, open Security. These modules protect the server itself rather than only moderating individual messages.
Security settings can take strong automatic action, so review the trigger and response for every system you plan to use.
- Bot Filter
- Account Age Protection
- Join Surge Detection
- Role Creation limits
- Role Deletion limits
- Ban limits
- Kick limits
- Channel Creation limits
- Channel Deletion limits
- Emoji Deletion limits
- Sticker Deletion limits
Step 8 — Customize Quick access
Once your basic setup is finished, return to Dashboard → Overview.
Quick access lets you keep the modules you use most often directly on the dashboard home page so you do not need to move through the full navigation every time.
- Dashboard Access
- Moderation
- Security
- Logging
- Bot Filter
- Welcome
- Embed Builder
- Return to Overview.
- Open the Quick access editor.
- Choose the modules your staff uses most often.
- Save the layout.
You’re ready to use Elle
At this point, the foundation of your server configuration is in place.
A good first-time setup flow is: Dashboard → Settings → Bot Language → Dashboard Access → Protected Roles → Moderator Permissions → Moderation → Security → Quick Access.
From here, you can move into individual feature guides without having to repeat the same setup work.
